A Prayer by a depressed soul
Oh heavenly Father,
The giver of life and every good gift,
Please accept my humble plea for help.
Although I have sinned against you many times,
Please do not hold it against me.
Forgive me please and show me the right way to walk.
My heavenly Father please console me in this moment of distress.
Make my heart rejoice and give me a reason to carry on.
I am at my lowest point and in desperate need of your caring arm.
Please offer me your shoulder to lean on.
If it is your will let me make it through the night.
May I awake in a cheerful mood.
Do not forsake me heavenly Father.
In Jesus name I approach you. Amen.
Psalms chapter 43
1 Judge me, O God,
And do conduct my legal case against a nation not loyal.
From the man of deception and unrighteousness may you provide me with escape.
2 For you are the God of my fortress.
Why have you cast me off?
Why do I walk about sad because of the oppression by the enemy?
3 Send out your light and your truth.
May these themselves lead me.
May they bring me to your holy mountain and to your grand tabernacle.
4 And I will come to the altar of God,
To God, my exultant rejoicing.
And I will laud you on the harp, O God, my God.
5 Why are you in despair, O my soul,
And why are you boisterous within me?
Wait for God,
For I shall yet laud him as the grand salvation of my person and as my God.
Psalms chapter 13
1 O LORD, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way?
2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
with sorrow in my heart every day?
How long will my enemy have the upper hand?
3 Turn and answer me, O LORD my God!
Restore the light to my eyes, or I will die.
4 Don't let my enemies gloat, saying, "We have defeated him!"
Don't let them rejoice at my downfall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
6 I will sing to the LORD
because he has been so good to me.
Psalms chatper 54
1 O God, by your name save me,
And with your mightiness may you plead my cause.
2 O God, hear my prayer;
Do give ear to the sayings of my mouth.
3 For there are strangers that have risen up against me,
And tyrants that do seek my soul.
They have not set God in front of them.
4 Look! God is my helper;
Jehovah is among those supporting my soul.
5 He will repay the bad to my foes;
In your trueness silence them.
6 In willingness I will sacrifice to you.
I shall laud your name, O Jehovah, for it is good.
7 For out of every distress he delivered me,
And upon my enemies my eye has looked.
"HOW SHOULD I PRAY?"
The prayer at Matthews 6:9-13 that Jesus gave to his disciples was evidently a model. Later prayers uttered by Jesus and his disciples did not rigidly stick to the same words or pattern.
The model prayer outlines things that we should pray for. In our prayers we should acknowledge the importance of God's name and express our desire to do our part in keeping that name sanctified or holy. Our prayers should also express our firm belief in God's Kingdom and its ability to free us from the effects of sin and death. It should be our sincere desire to see God's will take place on earth as it is in heaven.
The request for daily bread, forgiveness, protection against temptation and deliverance from the wicked one, expresses our desire to continue living a life approved by God.
Our prayers should be personal, sincere and reflect humility. Matters of deep concern to us such as our health, relationships, fears, anxieties and bad habits, should be mentioned. Our desire for increased spiritual knowledge and godly wisdom should be a frequent focus of our prayers.
There are others less fortunate who should also be included in our prayers. Our daily actions should be a reflection of what we pray for.
